Maybe fear, for having to sacrifice convenience for the sake of progress, but my cynical side tells me that this is all about profit, and reaping the biggest benefits before the world is gone. People say that we're a Christian nation. We're not; we're jsut a big country of nihilists. Nobody is dedicated to changing anything for future generations, everyone just wants to take whatever they can while they still can. The worst part is that I'm afraid this attitude will still go on until it's too late. They tend to take the idea that more carbon is released annually by volcanos than by humans to mean that what we do is insignificant, when it isn't. X carbon dioxide released each year is more or less what the Earth is stable at and can cope with. 0.0001% more can be significant if it tilts the balance.
